On April 30, 2017 Germany set a new national record by powering 85% the country with renewable energy sources like solar, wind and hydroelectric power. The majority of the country’s coal-fired power stations were not even running that day. In fact, a representative of the Agora Energiewende Initiative expects these majority renewables days to become “completely normal” by 2030. Congratulations Germany and cheers to these fantastic continued efforts to move away from fossil-fuels! More here

In Washington State, approximately 66,000 homes are still heated with oil. Not only is it the most expensive heat source, but oil heat also contributes significantly to air pollution and carbon emissions. In fact, to offset heating one home with oil you would have to operate 40 wind turbines for an entire year. Dang!
Thinking outside the box with hybrid heat solutions including heat pumps and infrared heat and stepping away from traditional forced air heat solutions is THE WAY to a better, more efficient, and more comfortable future. The
Oil Free Washington Coalition was formed to create a roadmap for our state to transition to lower cost, lower carbon heat sources. Read more about their findings (in general or specifically in your community)

Saturday April 29, 2017 | Westwood Addition at 9323 31st Place SW
11am – 5pm | FREE TICKETS
This Westwood Addition by LD Arch Design, transformed a typical one-story war-box home into one that is intriguing, yet approachable with modern, super-functional design for an expanding family. The project consisted of adding a second story with a master bedroom and bath, a family sized porch, and a kitchen refresh. Features include Infrared Radiant Ceiling Panels and many other DEEP GREEN solutions for healthy indoor air quality and minimal impact on the planet.

The homeowners had an existing single-head ductless heat pump that was re-used to heat the main space, but they didn’t want to spend the extra money to add a second head for the upstairs. Infrared radiant ceiling panels installed in the master bedroom and bathroom were the perfect solution. They were installed in the areas where the DHP would be less effective, providing a super-efficient and cozy heating system for the entire home.

Low-profile and out of the way, radiant ceiling panels also seamlessly complemented the exquisite design by Parie Hines (LD Arch Design) to create a warm, bright, and welcoming master suite.
