11am – 5pm | FREE TICKETS

This Westwood Addition by LD Arch Design, transformed a typical one-story war-box home into one that is intriguing, yet approachable with modern, super-functional design for an expanding family. The project consisted of adding a second story with a master bedroom and bath, a family sized porch, and a kitchen refresh. Features include Infrared Radiant Ceiling Panels and many other DEEP GREEN solutions for healthy indoor air quality and minimal impact on the planet.

The homeowners had an existing single-head ductless heat pump that was re-used to heat the main space, but they didn’t want to spend the extra money to add a second head for the upstairs. Infrared radiant ceiling panels installed in the master bedroom and bathroom were the perfect solution. They were installed in the areas where the DHP would be less effective, providing a super-efficient and cozy heating system for the entire home.

Low-profile and out of the way, radiant ceiling panels also seamlessly complemented the exquisite design by Parie Hines (LD Arch Design) to create a warm, bright, and welcoming master suite.

New Book: Remodeling Advice from an Architect

New Book: Remodeling Advice from an Architect

Are you thinking about remodeling your home but feeling unsure of where to start? A new book by our friend + colleague Stephanie Wascha of Wascha Studios, summarizes what she’s learned from 18 years as an architect, on two key subjects. First is how to prepare for your project – information you’ll need to give your architect, how to establish your priorities and save money. Second, she outlines how to avoid major conflict when you and your partner have different ideas in mind.

Unlike any other book on remodeling, Stephanie shares not only project challenges but emotional challenges commonly associated with remodeling as well. You will be privy to her years of observations, learn how others have managed typical stresses, mistakes, and challenges of this complex process both successfully and unsuccessfully. Avoid the avoidable, get inspired, and confidently navigate your way through your remodel to your new amazing home haven.

More info here. Available from Wascha Studios as well as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the like.

p.s. Designers and Contractors, this is a great book to share with your clients!

Radiant Ceiling Panels Featured in Built Green Case Study

This DADU (Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit) in Columbia City was designed by Sheri Newbold of Live-Work-Play Architecture and to maximize low-cost, efficient solutions. Built by Model Remodel, the project consists of a studio apartment with a deck situated above a new garage. The structure achieved a Built Green 4-Star rating and exceeds the required 20% energy savings compared to 2012 Washington State Energy Code.

Infrared Radiant Ceiling Panels were installed to provide efficient, cozy heat throughout the space from an aesthetically pleasing source. The panels warm people and objects in the rooms quickly, while also providing effective zone control.

This project also took advantage of rainwater catchment, moisture protection, and recycled materials! Read the full case study from Built Green here.

Four Days of Renewable Energy in Portugal

Four Days of Renewable Energy in Portugal

Large array of solar panels with a hilll behind it

Earlier this year Portugal reached a major energy efficiency milestone. As reported on by The Gaurdian, the country was entirely powered by renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro power for four days in a row or about 107 hours. And in 2015, 48% of Portugal’s energy came from renewable sources.

Looks like we’ve got some efficiency strides to make if we want to keep up with the Iberian Peninsula!
